Mathematics at National University of Ireland, Galway

Mathematics in the Arts Faculty

In first Arts a student studies four subjects from a large selection which includes Mathematics. Consult Faculty of Arts brochure for grouping of subjects. At the end of this year he or she must choose two subjects, which are taken for two further years, up to degree level.

Those interested in Mathematics would have taken the subject as one of their four subjects in first year. They must choose two subjects for their degree course and one or both of these may be chosen from the subjects Mathematics, and/or Applied Mathematical Science (consisting of a suitable selection from Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, Numerical Analysis, Statistics). If only one of the above is chosen then it must be taken in conjunction with another subject of the Arts Faculty. For instance Mathematics and Economics is a popular and useful combination.
